Action packed weekend for the BMC MTB Racing Team

21. août 2017 — Melanie Leveau — MTB Team

Four riders pinned a start number this past weekend at three different races: the Grand Raid BCVS, the final round of the French Cup and the Proffix Swiss Bike Cup.

Flückiger just outside the podium at the Grand Raid BCVS

After his second place last year, Lukas Flückiger stood on the start line in Verbier with one goal: adding his name to the palmares of the mythical Swiss Marathon race. Unfortunately, the 27th edition of the grueling race – 125km and 5’000m of climbing – was cruel for the 2016 winner and runner-up. Both Urs Huber and Lukas Flückiger crashed at different times of the race. If the first one had to stop because of a broken collarbone, Flückiger bit the bullet to finish the race with injured ribs to finally take 4th place in Grimentz.

Results:

  1. Samuele Porro (ITA) 6 :07’54’’
  2. Juri Ragonli (ITA) +4’08’’
  3. Simon Stiebjahn (GER) +10‘11‘‘
  4. Lukas Flückiger (SUI) +13‘40‘‘

Absalon takes third at the French Cup Finals

Julien Absalon took part to the fourth and final round of the French Cup in Montgenèvre to fine tune his preparation for the last major races of the season: the World Cup finals in Val di Sole, Italy and the World Championships in Cairns, Australia.

It looks like the French riders will be the nation to beat in the next three weeks, all of them being competing at a very high level. Absalon took third place and built some good confidence for the races to come.

Results:

  1. Jordan Sarrou 1:40’00’’
  2. Stéphane Tempier +6’’
  3. Julien Absalon +1’32’’

Reto Indergand holds onto the lead of the Proffix Swiss Bike Cup

With one last round to come at the end of September, things are looking good for Reto Indergand, current leader of the series. The Swiss rider, already winner of the overall classification last season, could build his lead despite a performance below his expectations: “I had a bad start and it took me lots of efforts to come back to the front. It cost me too much actually as I blew up and had to settle for 7th place. But the goal of the day was to hold onto the jersey so mission accomplished!”

In the leading group at the beginning of the race, Lars Forster suffered a mechanical and a crash. In these conditions, the young Swiss rider couldn’t do better than 8th place.

Results:

  1. Sam Gaze (NZL) 1:30’56’’
  2. Gerhard Kerschbaumer (ITA) +16’’
  3. Matthias Stirnemann (SUI) +20‘‘

(...)

7. Reto Indergand (SUI) +1‘38‘‘

8. Lars Forster (SUI) +2‘02‘‘

The five riders of the BMC MTB Racing Team will meet again this week in Val di Sole, Italy for the final round of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup.
