Quotes of the day
Sports Director Jens Blatter said: “It was not easy today for any of the team’s as there was a lot of strong winds over the parcours but the guys dealt with that really well. At the the first checkpoint we were fourth fastest so we told the guys to push hard. At the end it was TJ [Taylor], Pavel and Kilian who crossed the line to help TJ take the first yellow jersey. [Patrick] Müller and [Sam] Dobbs were dropped over the second half of the course but they did a great job and worked really hard at the beginning.”
“BMC Racing Team are obviously well known for producing strong results in team time trials so I think there was some expectation coming into the race that we would be the team to beat but you never know what can happen. We have a lot of potential in the team so we thought it would be possible and it feels great that we were able to win today. The guys worked excellent as a team. I am really proud.”
Taylor Eisenhart said: “It was a pretty incredible experience today and I am honestly really humbled and grateful. As a team we rode really well. This morning we did a recon of the course and we studied it thoroughly and thought about the wind, where we should really put the power in and what corners we should take. We really did our homework.”
“I definitely had a good feeling before the race. I knew we had a strong team on paper coming into it and I was super motivated for today’s stage in particular with time trials being one of my specialties. So, before the start of the race I said to the guys that we should go all or nothing for the win.”
“I wasn't too concerned when we were in fourth at half way. I knew that we could make up a lot of time over the technical second half so we stayed calm for the first part of the race and then as we saw the 10 kilometer marker we knew it was time to go and up the power. It feels great to have the win and it is the perfect start to the race for us.”
