Dylan Teuns and Alessandro De Marchi put the BMC Timemachine to the test on stage 4 of Paris-Nice, clocking the 15th and 18th fastest times respectively with 26’18” and 26’29”.

The 18.4km undulating course was tougher than it looked on paper and the last 40 riders to hit the course faced rain and hail, which made the gradual descent on the run into the finish line slightly more dangerous.

Both De Marchi and Teuns clocked the provisional fourth-fastest time when they crossed the finish line and although the remaining riders knocked them out of the top ten, they were able to hold onto top 20 positions, behind winner Woet Poels (Team Sky) who set the fastest time of 25’33”.

Teuns now sits in 14th place on the General Classification, one minute behind race leader Luis Leon Sanchez (Astana Pro Team).

Quotes from the Finish Line

Dylan Teuns:

“I think I rode almost the perfect time trial for me. It was just the last descent when maybe I lost some time as I didn’t take too much risk. In the end, I think I did well. I haven’t been working too much specifically on the time trial but over the winer I changed my position a bit and at training camp in January, we made some more small adjustments. So, I think this is working out well as I feel good on the bike and it helps me to perform well. Tomorrow, I hope to recover a bit from the last two days because yesterday was a hard final and today was a hard time trial. I’m looking forward to Friday and the two stages after.”

Alessandro De Marchi:

“The feelings were good. I said that I was looking to do a good day because I needed the effort, I needed to try. In the end it was ok. The problem was the rain in the downhill but I’m really happy with the feelings.”
