Sufferfest at Albstadt UCI World Cup

21. May 2018, Albstadt, Germany — Melanie Leveau — MTB Team

The rain that fell down in Albstadt the night prior to the race transformed the steep and physical course into a pain cave.

Feared by many riders, the German round of the World Cup had a bit of a different flavor this year because of the weather conditions. The ground became very slippery and left no chance for the riders to recover in the downhills. It also means that riding up over ones limits was increasing the risk of mistakes on the way down.

Lars Forster, Reto Indergand and Titouan Carod had a very strong start with the three of them riding at the forefront of the race. Unfortunately, the pace of the front group became too high for the three BMC riders who fought until the finish to eventually cross the line in 11th, 12th and 20th position.

Despite results below expectations, the team secured the second place in the Team classification and scored precious points for the overall which is one major goal this season.

Results:

  1. Nino Schurter (SUI) 1:28'07''
  2. Stéphane Tempier (FRA) +0'16''
  3. Mathieu Van der Poel (FRA) 0'40''

(...)

11. Lars Forster (SUI) +3'03''

12. Reto Indergand (SUI) +3'27''

20. Titouan Carod (FRA) +4'32''
