Successful 70.3IM weekend for Watkinson and Guillaume

21. August 2017 — Triathlon Team

Another excellent weekend of racing for the BMC- Etixx Pro Triathlon Team powered by Uplace.

Only 2 weeks after her victory at IM70.3 Philippines, Watkinson put in another dominating performance yesterday, to take the top step at IM70.3 Bintan. On the same day Romain Guillaume narrowly missed out on winning IM70.3 Dublin, as he came less than 30" short for the victory in the Irish capital.

Back to back victories for Amelia Watkinson as she takes the title at IM70.3 Bintan

There is no stopping Amelia Watkinson at the moment. Once again Watkinson did the damage on the bike. After a solid swim exiting the water in 2nd place, Amelia broke away from the rest of the field on the bike. She entered transition with more than 8' advantage on the first chasers. A strong half marathon saw her extend her lead to make it two 70.3 wins in a row (4:20:54). Anna Eberhardt finished 2nd (4:33:13) and Kate Bevilaqua clinched 3rd (4:41:46). Afterwards Amelia Watkinson looked back at her 2nd 70.3 win in 2 weeks time: "I felt really good out there today, especially on the bike and the run. Nice to be feeling some top form. The start of the bike course had a few undulations and corners which suited me really well to create the brake. During the half marathon I was able to control the race. I am really happy to take the win here today!"

Romain Guillaume 2nd at IM70.3 Dublin

Romain Guillaume (3:48:43) narrowly missed out on the victory in IM70.3 Dublin. A blistering performance on the bike (bike split 1:57:23) saw Guillaume starting the half marathon with a 4'40 cushion on the first chasers. Romain ran a very solid half marathon and stayed in the lead until the final kilometers of the run. At the end Guillaume came 30" short for the win. McNamee took the top step in 3:48:13 with Sean Donnelly taking third place in 3:56:05. After the race Romain Guillaume was very pleased with his performance: "It is a shame to miss out on the win by less then 30". But I can only be happy as I felt very strong today. I won IM70.3 South Africa earlier in the year, but I honestly think the quality of my performance was even better today. The swim was tough for the first 300m and then I was able to follow comfortably. On the bike I took the initiative straight away and I felt very strong on the bike throughout. My run was good as well. I knew I would be lacking some speed as I am building up to Ironman Wales in a few weeks time, but I was able to run a very constant pace. Credit to David who ran extremely well. No I am happy. It really shows me my shape is right on track for Ironman Wales next month."
