Stellar Team Performance at the Bike Days Solothurn

7. May 2018, Solothurn, Switzerland — Melanie Leveau — MTB Team

The three BMC riders present at the Bike Days in Solothurn made it to the five-man podium.

Happening as part of the biggest bike festival of Switzerland, the third round of the Proffix Swiss Bike Cup attracted a very strong field of riders. Lars Forster, winner of last year’s edition, was called to the start line with the leader jersey of the Swiss series and was surrounded by many world-class riders including the two best UCI ranked athletes Nino Schurter and Maxime Marotte of France. Schurter took the lead from the start and only three riders could keep up with the pace of the World Champion: Mathias Flückiger and two BMC riders Lars Forster and Reto Indergand. The four riders worked well together on the very fast course and quickly grew an important gap with the rest of the field. Forster was the first rider loosing contact with the front group after a mistake in the downhill “I missed a corner and went off the track… I probably also lost my legs there…” he said obviously disappointed after crossing the finish line in fourth position.

Reto Indergand proved once again that he’s one of the strongest riders in this early season. The 26 year old only surrender when Schurter placed a decisive attack in the steepest part of the climb with one and a half lap to the finish. “He left us no chance…! But I’m very happy with another podium finish. There were many strong guys here today so it gives me a good indication of my shape and some good confidence for the World Cups to come.”

First Elite Podium for Filippo Colombo

After a very strong second half of the race, Filippo Colombo who started in the Elite category, caught Forster in the last lap and eventually took fifth place behind him. “I’m over the moon! I felt good today but didn’t dare going with the front group at the beginning. I was afraid I would blow up later in the race, Maybe I should have tried…”

These results augur well for the second round of the Mercedez Benz UCI Mountain Bike World Cup happening in two weeks in Albstadt, Germany. The BMC Teamelite will again be the bike of choice there.
