Ralph Näf masters the mud to take first win of the season26. April 2015, Tesserete, Switzerland — MTB Team
Weather conditions were dreadful but made one man happy. Ralph Näf likes mud and slippery conditions and took advantage of it to display his excellent riding skills and take the win in Tesserete at the second round of the BMC Racing Cup.
German Manuel Fumic and Swiss U23 rider Lars Forster were Ralph Näf’s most tenacious competitors in the first two laps. The three of them rode together from the start and gained a lead of one minute. Half way through the race, Ralph Näf finally broke away and got a small gap putting pressure on the others. “I didn’t want to go too hard and preferred to focus on riding well through the technical sections”. The Swiss rider managed to build a gap and eventually crossed the finish line 30” ahead of Manuel Fumic. “I knew I could do really well here if I managed to be alone in the lead. It always gives me extra power”.
“I hate the rain during training but I actualIy like it when it comes to racing. So when I saw the forecast, it gave me some confidence” explained Ralph Näf before adding “It was a bit of a poker game with the tyre choice. We took the right decision going for the Continental X King.”
The other Swiss riders of the team had a solid race too. Lukas Flückiger rode to another 4th place, the third of the season. “I had a good start which is quite unusual for me but lost focus after crashing with another rider half way through the race. After that I had to fight back from 12th to 4th place. I am not 100% happy with my riding but will focus on that in the next weeks to be ready for the first World Cup”.
Martin Fanger and Reto Indergand finished 6th and 7th completing an excellent team performance. Unfortunately, Julien Absalon had to withdraw from the race due to mechanical problems and couldn’t defend his lead in the BMC Racing Cup.
The BMC MTB Racing Team will be in Heubach, Germany next weekend before the Bike Days in Solothurn, host of the third round of the BMC Racing Cup.
