Julien Absalon Renews Contract with the BMC MTB Racing Team8. October 2016 — Melanie Leveau — MTB Team
After a successful season that saw him win the 2016 UCI MTB World Cup, three World Cup rounds, the European and the French championships, Julien Absalon isn’t ready to stop the wheels from spinning. He announced the extension of his contract with the BMC MTB Racing Team today at Roc d'Azur.
Julien Absalon joined the Swiss team in 2013 and quickly became acquainted with the new structure and bikes, scoring one of the most successful seasons of his career in 2014 with gold medals at the French, European and World Championships, as well as three World Cup wins and the overall classification. During his four seasons with the team, Absalon has developed a relationship of trust with the team staff and BMC engineers that has helped him to become a better rider – of particular note is the integration of a full-suspension bike (the BMC Fourstroke) in his racing.
On the eve of his win at his home World Cup in La Bresse, France last May, Absalon announced his desire to continue his career. Today, the French rider signed a one-year contract to go beyond 2016 with the World’s number one MTB team.
Alex Moos, Team Manager of the BMC MTB Racing Team said: “We didn't think long when Julien announced he wanted to continue racing. He is part of the team and part of the BMC family and it felt very natural to keep working together until the end of his career."
Absalon is looking forward to continuing his relationship with the BMC MTB Racing Team:“Olympic seasons are always very special. There is a lot of pressure and we have to focus on every single detail to be performant. I wanted to continue and live another normal season so I can enjoy more and share more with the younger riders in the team. I never really consider ending my career with another team than BMC; the staff and the material is great so I had no reason to look for something else."
Absalon plans to keep racing XCO at the highest level for another year, his 18th as a professional rider. Beyond the 2017 season, Absalon will keep representing and working together with BMC Switzerland.
