Forster and Indergand Surround Schurter on Bike The Rock’s Podium

30. April 2018, Heubach, Germany — Melanie Leveau — MTB Team

Like last Sunday in Schaan, Lars Forster and Reto Indergand delivered a very strong performance and could only be beaten by Nino Schurter.

The German Bike The Rock festival and its HC race are known for a great atmosphere, thousands of cheering fans and… a very long climb. Unlike most of nowadays XCO tracks, the one in Heubach is made of an uphill followed by a fast downhill. Not much fun involved, just 1h30 of pure suffering.

The three Elite riders of the BMC MTB Racing Team took it as a good challenge and a good test with a strong line-up. With Schurter hammering the first downhill and some slower riders on the way, Forster had to make a big effort early in the race to get to the front and share the lead with the World Champion. “In the fourth lap, I rode at a high tempo and many riders cracked; not Nino unfortunately” he smiled. “I also paid for it and had to let Nino go alone. “ Forster eventually crossed the finish line 25 seconds behind Schurter. “It’s a super tough race but the atmosphere is good and legs were good so I kind of enjoyed it.”

About 30 seconds behind his team mate, Reto Indergand came to the finish area to take third place. “I was riding around 5th place for a long time and I would have been happy with a top 5 finish here in Heubach. But I realized that there was still fuel in the tank and that the others were slowing down so I could pass Cink and Guerrini. I’m super happy with another podium position!”

Titouan Carod suffered with back pain and couldn’t ride at his full potential. He finished 16th.

Colombo Podiums in the U23 race

Earlier in the day, Filippo Colombo showed a strong performance as well. Despite being worried by the long climb that he discovered while training on Saturday, the rider from Ticino rode a high tempo from start to finish and crossed the finish line in third place, 1’22’’ behind Joshua Dubau, winner of the day. “It went much better than expected!” he said with a large smile on his face.

After a short escape in Germany, the BMC MTB Racing Team riders are going for racing on home soil next weekend. The Swiss riders will be racing the third round of the Proffix Swiss Bike Cup in Solothurn while Titouan Carod will start at round three of the French Cup in Ussel.
