First World Cup Podium for Colombo in Nove Mesto27. May 2018, Nove Mesto na Morave, Czech republic — Melanie Leveau — MTB Team
Strong of a solid start of the season, Filippo Colombo took second place at the third round of the U23 World Cup in Czech Republic.
After his fifth place in Albstadt last weekend and a week of training during which he felt strong, Colombo decided to race aggressively on the very technical Czech course. He set a very fast pace as soon as the starting gun went off and three men only could keep his back wheel. The leading group was formed then and it became quickly clear that the win would be decided between the four of them. Colombo explains how it unfolded: “I felt good and could respond to every attack during the race until Vlad Dascalu, the Romanian champion, went all in during the last lap. His attack was simply too fast for me at this stage of the race… Anyway, I’m happy with my second place and moreover about the fact that I proved I can play an active role at the front of a big race.”
After three races, Colombo is second in the World Cup overall classification and will now focus on two upcoming events in Switzerland; the Swiss Bike Cup in Gränichen next weekend and the Swiss National Championships on the last weekend of June.
