Filippo Colombo Joins the BMC MTB Racing Team7. September 2017 — Melanie Leveau — MTB Team
Swiss U23 Champion Filippo Colombo will be part of the BMC MTB Racing Team as from January 2018.
Colombo, newly crowned World Champion with the Swiss National Team in the Team Relay in Cairns, Australia, will transfer from the VC Tamaro to the BMC MTB Racing Team this winter. What seems to be a logical move is also a great step forward for the 20 year old rider. “My current club is sponsored by BMC so I know the bikes and the team already. It was a very easy decision for me when I was offered to be part of the BMC MTB Racing Team which is one if not the best of all XC teams. It’s a great honor for me to become part of the family.” The young rider also sees it as a great chance to develop further: “I look forward to training and racing with top Elite riders and to working with a very professional staff. It will definitely help me in the development of my career.“
Colombo will race the next season in the U23 category. “My goal is to become a regular podium rider at the World Cup. Of course, I am also already thinking about the World Championships that will happen in Lenzerheide.”
For Alex Moos, Team Manager of the BMC MTB Racing Team, the arrival of Filippo Colombo feels very natural: “We’ve known Filippo for quite some time already. Even though he is still racing with the VC Tamaro, one of the BMC development teams, Filippo joined our early season training camps the last two years, he raced the 2015 Swiss Epic with us and we’ve been working on the preparation of his bikes at every World Cup so he’s far from being a new face to the team.” When asked about the reasons of his choices, Moos said: “I see a big potential in Filippo. He’s only 20 and will join the Swiss Olympic and army structure this winter so I see a bright future for him, in the U23 ranks first and in the Elite category later on.”
The arrival of Filippo Colombo confirms the strategy of the BMC MTB Racing Team and its focus on the future.
