What a season it has been for the BMC Pro Triathlete. After winning the Asian Pacific Ironman Championship in Cairns, followed by his fantastic 4th place finish at the most recent Ironman World Championship in Hawaii, Neumann dominated Ironman Western Australia from start to finish and claimed his second Ironman title of the season.

Neumann raced in front all day long. The Aussie pushed the pace early on the bike and came in transition with a margin of 1'24 on the first chaser. Out on the run course Max started extending the gap and had an advantage of almost 4' at the halfway mark. Neumann kept a strong pace and finished in a superb time of 7:45:22, missing the course record by one second. Steven McKenna (AUS; 7:50:49) finished 2nd with Matt Burton (AUS; 7:56:09) coming home in 3rd.

Afterwards Neumann reflected on his excellent all-round performance: "Obviously it is a shame to miss the course record by one second, but to finish here with another win in Australia is special. I had a great race against some of the best Aussies and very special to be able to do this. With just over 2k to go I got the message I was very close to taking the course record. I did some quick maths and the last thing you want to do is bury yourself and end up in the medical tent, so I left it to the last k and sprinted to the finish line, but yeah missed it by one second. The race panned out well for me. The swim was nice and choppy, the bike conditions were actually really hard, it felt like we had a head wind the entire time. But the first three all rode very solid, this was as fair as it comes, as we bike almost the entire 180k by ourselves. So it all came down to who had the better run legs, and luckily that was me today. I still had some freshness in the legs and came out with the win. 2022 has been incredible, on the Ironman side I couldn't have asked for anything better this year."
