Podiuming and regaining World Cup leader’s jersey are Team BMC’s goals in Andorra

Aug 21, 2023

After the World Championships in Scotland, the XC scene drops down to Andorra for the next round in the World Cup Series. In Vallnord, the Swiss team aims for a podium and to regain the lead in the general classification.

Team BMC pilot Jordan Sarrou has been performing consistently this season, resulting in the World Cup leader’s jersey after Leogang. In Val di Sole, he lost the lead in the standings, but he is not far off from taking the prestigious white jersey, especially if he continues to maintain his consistent form for the remainder of the season.

“It is a goal”, Sarrou confirms. “Obviously the jersey is a natural consequence of solid performances, so the bigger goal is to perform well in Andorra.”

It was the first time wearing the leader’s jersey in the elite category for Sarrou, in Val di Sole, and that was a feeling that he wants to experience again. “It is a big motivation for me”, he says.

Titouan Carod has similar ambitions. He took the good feelings from Scotland, where he felt like he could have reached the top-8 in the World Championships. “The form is growing. I hope to step it up in the latter half of the season, starting in Vallnord next weekend.”

Two more pilots in great shape are Juri Zanotti and Team BMC U23 rider Janis Baumann, who both improve their race results race after race. Zanotti is competing more and more from the front. Baumann in the meantime sets similar lap times as his competitors in the top 5, so as soon as he is improving his position on the start grid, he will finish closer to the top riders.

Last but not least, Steffi Häberlin, who has been consistently racing as well. The Team BMC pilot says she is well recovered from her efforts in Scotland and ready to race. The course in Andorra, is not among her favourite courses, however, with a good pair of legs, she will surely be able to show what she is made of.
