Rider profile

Richie Porte lines up for his third season with BMC Racing Team in 2018 after taking his total number of professional wins up to 27, a number which only looks set to rise further. At 32 years old and entering his ninth year as a pro, Porte is one of the best stage and Grand Tour riders in the peloton.

After a stellar start to 2017, with overall victories at the Santos Tour Down Under, including a fourth consecutive stage win on Willunga Hill, and the Tour de Romandie, Porte’s year ended early after he was forced to abandon the Tour de France following a crash on stage 9, but the Australian rider is more determined than ever.

Porte’s strength on the climbs is backed by his speed against the clock, with the former Australian national time trial champion clocking consistent podium finishes in time trials. This includes a dominant performance on stage 4 of last year’s Critérium du Dauphiné which saw him take the win and move into the yellow jersey before he eventually settled for second overall on the General Classification.
