Santos Tour Down Under

BMC Racing Team at the start line on January 14th, 2018

Santos Tour Down Under (AUS)

Fabio Baldato (ITA)

Sports Director

"Like always, we will have a lot of eyes on us, but we cannot forget the other teams. We will race our race, but we need to be aware and attentive to what the other teams will do. I am expecting some strong riders to challenge and we will see how the race unfolds day by day. We have a strong team with a lot of experience on these roads so we are starting the season in a good position."

Patrick Bevin (NZ)

Raced: 2016, 2017

"I’m excited to kick things off. Obviously, it’s the first WorldTour race of the year so it’s always exciting, especially coming into a new team. It kind of feels like it did a couple of years ago when It was all shiny and new. So, I’m looking forward to the week ahead. I want to support the guys and see a BMC Racing Team jersey win this race. When you have three previous winners who have covered the last four years, you absorb a bit of pressure but we’ll be looking to win this race."

Tom Bohli (SUI)

First time racing

"I think I am in pretty good shape. I have done some good training her over the last three weeks and have become used to the weather and the hills, the terrain. I’m looking forward to doing a good job for the team and supporting Richie Porte and our leaders."

Rohan Dennis (AUS)

Raced: 2010, 2012 (winner points and youth classification), 2014, 2015 (winner stage 3, youth classification, and overall), 2016, 2017

"My form is good. Basically, I’m just here to help Richie Porte and hopefully it’s a similar situation as last year with him taking the win and me being somewhat protected. If he needs my help, then I’ll be there. There are obviously some stages that are hard but if they are raced a certain way then it’s not going to be hard enough for Richie to drop guys on the hills, so it would open it up for me. Norton Summit is a hard climb but if there is a certain wind and it is not raced to Richie’s liking, then it opens it up to a fast climber like myself or Simon Gerrans."

Simon Gerrans (AUS)

Raced: 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006 (winner stage 2 and overall), 2007, 2008, 2011, 2012 (winner overall), 2013 (winner stage 5), 2014 (winner stage 1, points classification, and overall), 2016 (winner stage 3, stage 4, points classification, and overall), 2017.

"It’s always an exciting race here at the Santos Tour Down Under for so many reasons. It’s such close racing, it’s great to see so many guys out here racing for the first time in the season, and everyone is super motivated, myself included. I’m really happy to be here with BMC Racing Team and I’m super excited to line up with these guys, especially in Australia."

Richie Porte (AUS)

Raced: 2008, 2011, 2014 (winner stage 5), 2015 (winner stage 5), 2016 (winner stage 5), 2017 (winner stage 2, stage 5 and overall)

"Winning the Santos Tour Down Under was a great feeling last year. As an Australian there is no better way to start the season than a win in Adelaide. I don’t feel like I’m coming into the race with a huge amount of pressure, except for maybe on Willunga Hill. We have a great team, with the likes of Rohan Dennis and Simon Gerrans, and I think we’re in a good position to start the year well as a team."

Miles Scotson (AUS)

Raced: 2015, 2017

"I’m here to support our leaders as best as possible. My form is always pretty good coming here because I get to have a good training block in Adelaide and good weather. So, I’ll be ready to go on Sunday."

Danilo Wyss (SUI)

Raced: 2010, 2013 – 2017

"I always like to start the season here. I think the next step is to apply for citizenship here in Australia. I really look forward to starting the season. It is a nice course, especially with this new finish in Uraidla. I think it will be quite a hard finish. Of course, we have quite a bit of pressure on the team but we are ready to handle that. Everyone is motivated and in good shape so I think we’ll have a good race and have some fun."
