is much more involved than a wheel diameter; it is a philosophy, a mindset, a strategic approach to geometry and handling characteristics to make 29er bikes ride intuitively. When the transition to 29” wheels started catching fire, our engineers realised that the entire bike, from handlebar to rear triangle, had to be redesigned and re-evaluated. The result is a multi-faceted approach: position the rider in an ideal space for traction and control, create the perfect cockpit for confidence, and rethink geometry until the bike is fast, fearless and nimble.
Perfect chainstay length, maximum bottom bracket drop, and a short stem create a bike that works with riders, not against them.
Chainstay length is a critical component to how well the bike manoeuvres into and out of turns and the maximum bottom bracket drop creates stability through tight corners.
A short stem is critical for creating a nimble and quick front end, preventing riders from using their energy to turn the bike through tight terrain.
With a larger contact patch, 29” wheels are known for stability and predictability. We take things further with a determined geometry and cockpit.
A slacker-than-usual head tube angle, combined with a long top tube and offset forks, creates an impressive long front-centre measurement for confidence and speed.
Only one additional feature is needed to compliment the front-end handling of our big wheel bikes - a nice, wide handlebar. To give riders ideal leverage at the grip, our MTB platforms come with a wider-than-normal handlebar.
