2017 Season Ends with fourth place at Roc d’Azur9. October 2017, Fréjus, France — Melanie Leveau — MTB Team
The BMC MTB Racing Team chose the Roc d’Azur to put an end to their season. Before enjoying some well-deserved time off, the riders put on a nice show.
The Roc d’Azur is a very unique event: a 57km cross-country race as part of the biggest MTB Festival in the World. About 120’000 visitors and 20’000 participants for a total of 33 races gather in Fréjus in the South of France to celebrate the sport of mountain biking and the end of the season.
In the first hotspot of the race, a technical downhill called “Le Fournel”, Reto Indergand is in second place, just a few seconds behind Jordan Sarrou, already winner of two editions of the Roc d’Azur and one of the favorites of the day. A small group of four got away but didn’t collaborate so they were seven riders, including Reto Indergand and Lukas Flückiger, in the famous Col du Bougnon, the second hotspot of the race.
Unfortunately neither Indergand nor Flückiger could follow when Nicola Rohrbach placed an attack and went off with Daniel Geysmair and Jordan Sarrou, 2016 winner. Behind the trio, which would eventually finish in this order, Reto Indergand proved the strongest and took a final fourth place. Lukas Flückiger finished 6th, Lars Forster 9th and Titouan Carod 14th. Julien Absalon, who didn’t have any ambitions for the race apart from having fun on his home trails finished in a little group for the 20th place.
Lars Forster and Lukas Flückiger will taek part in the Redbull Velodux in Estavayer-le-Lac on the 4th of November to start an intensive cyclo-cross programme. They will be joined at some races by Reto Indergand.
No cyclo-cross for the French riders. Both Titouan Carod and Julien Absalon will start preparing for the 2018 cross-country season in a few weeks’ time.
