Forster Ends The Year With a Cyclo-cross Win27. December 2016, Dagmersellen, Switzerland — Melanie Leveau — MTB Team
Almost a year after winning the Swiss National Championships in Dagmersellen, Lars Forster won there again on his return to competition after a four month-period without competition. Lukas Flückiger joined him on the podium with third place.
Every year on Boxing Day, the little village of Dagmersellen becomes the place to be for all cyclo-cross riders and fans. A large field started for twelve laps of a very dry and extremely fast course. A large group of fifteen men quickly broke away with the three BMC riders Lars Forster, Lukas Flückiger and Reto Indergand. With such a big group the race became very tactical with everyone trying his luck in the long climb or in the technical downhill. In the fourth lap, Forster dropped his chain and lost almost 30’’ in the incident. He had to chase hard during a few laps but finally managed to come back and recover before enter the last lap with twelve other riders.
Forster placed a strong attack in the long climb and opened a few-meter gap that he could maintain until the finish line. Arms wide open; the Swiss National Champion could enjoy his first cyclo-cross win with his distinctive jersey.
Lukas Flückiger sprinted for second place a few seconds behind but had to settle for third behind Belgian rider Braam Merlier.
Reto Indergand who played an active role in the leading group crashed with three laps to go and took a final 14th place.
The 2016 season is now definitely over for the BMC MTB Racing Team. The three Swiss riders will meet again on the 2nd of January in Meilen for the first race of the 2017 year.
