BMC Development Team to Open 2017 Season in Belgium16. February 2017, Santa Rosa, California (USA) — Development Team
BMC Development Team will open their 2017 season on Sunday (19 February) when they line up with an extended team at the Belgian one-day race, Ingelmunster.
BMC Development Team Sports Director Klaas Lodewyck said that Ingelmunster provides the perfect starting point for the season ahead.
“This is a smaller, local race, so it gives us the opportunity to go to Belgium with a much bigger team than usual. We added the race to our calendar to allow the riders to shake off the cobwebs and get back into the swing of racing. Of course, it would be great to win, but we aren't going into the race with huge expectations. The primary goal for us will be to take the form our riders have shown at training camp and kick start our season. I think it is important for us to do this, to help our riders work towards the goals that lie ahead.”
For Nathan Van Hooydonck, Ingelmunster marks the start of his third season with BMC Development Team.
“I am excited to start racing again and lining up in Belgium is always great. The upcoming race isn't the most important race of the season, but it's a good race to start with and the fact that we can have a big group of riders there is great. We have a strong team representing BMC Development Team, and everyone has a big engine and the power to put in a strong performance where it counts and to produce results,” explained Van Hooydonck.
Staff Cras and Jasper Philipsen will both make their debut for BMC Development Team on home soil at the race.
“I'm looking forward to kicking off the season. We had a great training camp in Spain, and now the races can finally start. There are always a few nerves at the first race of the year but I'm looking forward to it, and hopefully, we can do a good race and finish with a strong result,” said Philipsen.
“I’m happy that I can start my season this weekend and after our training camp I feel like my shape and form getting stronger and stronger. I am not on at my top level yet, but that is not necessary because my targets are later in the season. I am looking forward to racing with my new team and having spent the last couple of weeks with everyone, I think we are all ready and excited to race,” added Cras.
