Triptique Ardennais: Van Hooydonck Seventh in Prologue19. May 2016, Saive (BEL) — Development Team
Nathan Van Hooydonck stopped the clock at 6’29 in the opening 5km prologue at Triptique Ardennais to secure seventh place overall.
The technical course made for a tricky course, which saw Laurens Sweeck (ERA-murprotect) take first place ahead of Kevin Deltombe (Lotto Soudal) and Gianni Vermeersch (Willems Veranda’s Cycling Team).
Pascal Eenkhoorn was also in the mix at the top crossing the line tenth, 10 seconds behind race leader Sweeck.
Van Hooydonck now goes in to Stage 1 tomorrow sitting in seventh on the General Classification.
Quotes of the day
Sports director, Klaas Lodewyck said: “I’m happy with today’s results. It was pretty technical and there were at least twenty corners over the short course. We decided not to ride TT bikes both for the safety of the riders and also because the riders thought that it could actually be faster, or just the same, to ride their BMC Teammachines.”
“Nathan and Pascal both did really well to be in the top ten and actually all of the other riders did a good job and I think we are in a good position to do something over the next few days.”
Nathan Van Hooydonck said: “The course was very technical with lots of corners rather than nice straight roads. I didn't think it would suit me super good so I am happy with my result. I still felt a little bit tired from Berlin but I am looking forward to seeing how it will go in the following days.”
Pascal Eenkhoorn said: “The prologue was really tricky. I knew that with my experience from cyclocross that the course suits me. Everything was going well during the time trail, I just missed out on the last bit of power to make it a winning time.”
