It’s day 4 of BMC Racing Team’s 2016 kick off in Denia, and after a busy first three days the riders enjoyed a light recovery ride in the Alicante region this morning.

The 2016 kick off is an important time of the year for BMC Racing Team. It’s the only opportunity throughout the entire season to bring all riders together and also the chance to stretch the legs after the off season and lay the foundations for a strong season in 2016.

BMC Racing Team coach Marco Pinotti explained how he developed the training program for the 2016 kick off camp and the importance of having the whole team together at the close of the 2015 season.

“There are two main goals of the camp, to conduct a physical assessment of the riders so that we can divide the training groups according to fitness levels and also to establish race goals for the 2016 season,” said Pinotti.

“The daily training groups are based on these two criteria. The first training block in the first few days was a physical assessment of all of the riders and we adjusted the composition of the groups after listening to the rider’s feedback. Mostly training has been endurance-based and strength training, increasing the amount of mountain training and intensity throughout the camp. The advantage of training in a group is that riders can do drills and race-like efforts that they cannot do when they train by themselves at home. The motivation is always high when the riders are in a big group.”
