Three out of three for Indergand and Flückiger at Swiss Epic

14. September 2016, Leukerbad, Switzerland — Melanie Leveau — MTB Team

Reto Indergand and Lukas Flückiger won Stage 2 of the Swiss Epic in front of Olympic and World Champion Nino Schurter and team mate Mathias Stirneman.

Today’s stage was a rather short one: 43km for 1’500 of climbing and 2’400 of descent. Because of its relative short racing time (1:41’50’’) and its technical downhills, it was definitely one that favored the cross-country riders. So Lukas Flückiger and Reto Indergand took advantage of it to increase their lead over the marathon specialists of the Centurion – Vaude team. They even managed to catch the German duo that started two minutes ahead of them.

The biggest threat today came from the Scott-Odlo MTB Racing Team 1 with Olympic Champion Nino Schurter and team mate Mathias Stirneman. The duo finished 37’’ behind the BMC MTB Racing Team.

Flückiger and Indergand are now leading the race by 4’20’’ on Centurion Vaude and a comfortable 12’38’’ on Topeak Ergon Racing Team. Tomorrow’s stage between Leukerbad and Verbier is the king stage with its 93km and 3’000m of climbing.

Results:

  1. BMC MTB Racing Team (Flückiger - Indergand)
  2. Scott Odlo MTB Racing Team (Schurter - Stirnemann)
  3. Centurion Vaude (Käss - Geismayr)
