#theroadtorio – Julien Absalon tests the Brazillian XCO Course

12. October 2015 — MTB Team

Although the 2015 season has drawn to a close, most of the world’s elite mountain bikers won’t be sitting back on their laurels like other years.

The 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janiero, Brazil, are only 10 months away. The traditional test event took place yesterday at the Deodoro Olympic Park, giving riders a first glance at next year’s x-country course. Julien Absalon, who is aiming for a third Olympic gold medal next August, was there with the French National Team. The heat at the start line was stifling (more than 40 degrees) and extremely humid. Fourty-five men took part in the race that took place over 6 laps on a brand new course that had been built especially for the Olympics. Absalon crashed halfway through the race and had to settle for fourth place behind Nino Schurter, Maxime Marotte and Andrea Tiberi. However, he wasn’t disappointed "The experience here and the information gathered over the last few days is more important than the result" he said after the race.
