Swiss Epic, overall: Indergand and Fanger take fifth place20. September 2015, Zermatt, Switzerland — MTB Team
The second edition of the Swiss Epic finished yesterday in Zermatt with the Matterhorn as a perfect background. After 400km and 15’000 of vertical ascent, the BMC MTB Racing Team comprising of Reto Indergand and Martin Fanger finished 5th in the overall classification.
If every participant of the Swiss Epic agreed on how tough the week had been for them they also agreed on the quality of the trails and the beauty of the Valais region. The last stage took the riders from Grächen to Zermatt, the famous ski resort with a view ofn the majestic Matterhorn. Reto Indergand and Martin Fanger were hungry for a spot on the podium and attacked in the first kilometers of the race. They quickly found themselves with the two teams who were still in contention for the overall win. So things were going according to plan until a train crossing gate stopped them, and letletting the other two others teams close the gap.
After this episode, five teams were in the lead and the BMC MTB Racing Team eventually crossed the line in fourth place which guaranteed them the fifth place in the overall classification; a good result for the two youngest riders onof the team. “The week didn’t really go as we wanted,” explained Alex Moos, team manager. “Ralph’s crash in the prologue meant he and Lukas Flückiger had to stop the race. After that, Reto and Martin were a bit unlucky – they suffered a crash and a puncture during the week - and it cost them one or two spots in the overall classification. But they fought hard together and that was good to see. All in all, the Swiss Epic was a great week of racing and thea perfect preparation for the last race of the season: the Roc d’Azur in France on the 11th of October.”
