Sofie Goos 2nd at KMD Ironman Copenhagen

24. August 2015 — Triathlon Team

For the second year in a row, Sofie Goos (BEL) of the Uplace-BMC Pro Triathlon Team finished 2nd in the KMD Ironman Copenhagen. Sofie Goos came close to the leading girl Vesterby during the run, but at the end had to settle for second place.

Sofie Goos (BEL) had a decent swim (3,8km: 56,35). She came out of the water in the second group in fourth position 5:50 behind Michelle Vesterby. On the bike leg Sofie (180km: 4:54:22) moved up to third place and entered T2 together with Tajsich 7:42 behind Michelle Vesterby. During the run, Sofie Goos started off fast and came to less than a minute at the 24km mark. During the second half of the marathon, Sofie had to slow down and was not able to take over the lead (42km: 3:04:56).

Despite her fantastic 2nd place Sofie was disappointed with the result: “I just came back from a good training camp in Font Romeu, I never felt so strong this season, so I was ready for a strong performance. I had a decent swim and I left the water 5 minutes behind the leading duo. On the bike, I rode alone the first half. In the second part, Sonja Tajsich joined me and we tried to chase Michelle. Nevertheless, we entered T2 -7:30 behind Michelle. On the run, I started off at a good, controlled pace. I quickly came closer to Michelle. During the last 10km, I encountered stomach problems and could not close the gap any more. I really hoped to win, but I have to be happy with the second place.”
