Ralph Näf finished BMC Racing Cup on a High17. August 2015, Basel Muttenz, Switzerland — MTB Team
Ralph Näf won the BMC Racing Cup in Basel Muttenz over the weekend – the final round of the 2015 series - for the third time in a row. But this victory meant more than the previous two; with it, he won the national series for the first time in his career, finishing on a high at his last official cross-country appearance on home soil.
“In such a situation you don’t look back” Ralph Näf said about the penultimate lap where he launched a decisive attack to distance the competition, Nicola Rohrbach and Lars Forster. It is very likely however that he will be looking back at this special moment in a few weeks, when his last season as a professional mountain biker will have come to an end. The celebration of the crowd, as well as hugs for Alex Moos (BMC MTB Racing Team manager), his teammates and his children, said a lot about how he was feeling.
“I am so happy that I am still up front with the best, and if there is a victory in the end it’s even better. I have no regrets about my decision to stop. When all the suffering began today, I was thinking: thanks goodness it will be over soon”, commented Ralph.
He takes the overall victory in the 2015 BMC Racing Cup in front of his teammate Lukas Flückiger, fourth yesterday, and Julien Absalon - who decided to stay home to celebrate his 35th birthday.
There are still some emotional moments to come for Ralph in the coming weeks. In fact, he and the rest of BMC MTB Racing Team will be racing the final round of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in Val di Sole, Italy this weekend - before representing Switzerland and France at the World Championships in Andorra on the first weekend of September.
