The past Swiss national road champion placed 13th after being part of a breakaway for about 20 kilometers in the final third of the 198.2-kilometer race.

Jens Debusschere (Lotto Soudal) soloed to the win, six seconds ahead of Jan Bakelants (AG2R La Mondiale). Christophe Laporte (Cofidis, Solutions Crédits) was third. Schär finished in a small group 43 seconds after Debusschere.
