Patrick Müller will line up as defending champion on Monday (April 17) when BMC Development Team’s five-rider roster heads to the start line for the first of two back to back races in Italy, Giro del Belvedere.

Sports Director Jens Blatter said that he is expecting BMC Development Team to race aggressively at the two one-day races.

“As a team, we have performed consistently well at Giro del Belvedere including last year’s victory with Patrick Müller. This is a good race for us, and we have a strong team lining up in support of Patrick once again. We will then head to GP Palio del Recioto with Steff Cras as our leader.”

“Both Patrick and Steff are in good shape right now, and I am confident that with the strength of our team, we can race offensively and produce good results. I'm also interested to see how our younger riders like Jasper Philipsen and Reto Müller perform at the first climbing test of the year.”

Patrick Müller is looking forward to wearing number one.

“Winning Giro del Belvedere last year is one of my career highlights so far. This is my third season riding U23, so I have continued to step up my training with this as one of my first priorities for the year. I feel as strong, if not stronger than I did at this time last year so I am hoping that I can be at my best once again this year."

"Winning this race is hard, and I think defending the title will be even harder with everyone looking at you to make the first move. The pressure will definitely be on us as a team, but we're going there with a strong group of guys and I am confident in everyone's abilities."

Steff Cras is looking forward to stepping up to a leadership position at GP Palio del Recioto.

“After recovering from a small injury at Tour of Normandy, my shape is back up to where I wanted to be. I raced at two local Belgium races last week, and I felt good at both, so I am confident about heading to Italy and racing for a good result."

"These races are my first major goals of the year. I know the circuits from last year, and I think they suit me well so, I'm excited about getting started. Having such a strong team around me for GP Palio del Recioto gives me extra motivation to race for the highest honor.”
