Paris-Nice, Stage 5: Van Garderen Stays Fourth

13. March 2015 — Road Team

Van Garderen finished 20th and in the same time as stage winner Davide Cimolai (Lampre-Merida). But Schär, who has proven a valuable teammate to van Garderen in overall victories at the 2013 Amgen Tour of California and the past two USA Pro Challenge races, went down hard as the peloton negotiated narrow roads in the finale of the 192.5-km race.

BMC Racing Team Dr. Dario Spinelli said Schär has road rash on his shoulder, elbow, hip and knee. But the past Swiss national road champion is expected to be fine to start Saturday.

Michal Kwiatkowski (Etixx-Quick Step) kept the overall lead, one second ahead of Richie Porte (Team Sky) and 27 seconds ahead of van Garderen.
