Oss Animates At Milan-San Remo

22. March 2015 — Road Team

Following attacks by teammates Silvan Dillier and Alessandro De Marchi on the penultimate climb, Oss and Geraint Thomas (Team Sky) slipped the peloton on the descent. After gaining nearly 30 seconds' advantage, Oss was first to be brought back on the ascent of the Poggio. Thomas was caught by Van Avermaet on the descent, but the winner of a stage of Tirreno-Adriatico could not out-distance himself from the other chasers and a bunch sprint ensued. John Degenkolb (Giant-Alpecin) won the race ahead of last year's runner-up, Alexander Kristoff (Katusha Team).

Gilbert went down on one of the switchbacks on the descent of the Poggio, along with several others. The former world road champion was not seriously hurt.
