Lars Forster selected for Rio6. June 2016, Grenchen — Melanie Leveau — MTB Team
Swiss Cycling yesterday announced the team of cross-country mountain bikers that will compete in Rio de Janeiro this summer and a proud Lars Forster will be one of the three riders to go to Brazil.
Thanks to his very impressive World Cup debut – a 6th place in Cairns, Australia and a 5th place in Albstadt, Germany – the 23 year old rider from Jona near Zürich will have the honor of representing his country alongside Nino Schurter and Mathias Flückiger.
“I can’t believe that I’m going there!” said Forster a few minutes after the news was out. “Being part of the very strong Swiss Team is incredible and I’m really looking forward to it!” In his first Elite season, Forster didn’t think much about a possible participation at the world's biggest sporting event until his results in Cairns and Albstadt. “After my sixth place in Cairns, I knew it was possible.”
Although his participation in Rio will be the highlight of his season, the young rider refuses to change his initial plans. “The World Championships in Nove Mesto na Morave, the World Cup in Lenzerheide and the Swiss Championships remain big goals for me.”
For Alex Moos, Team Manager of the BMC MTB Racing Team, the news was also received with great satisfaction: “We are of course happy and very proud! This selection will make Lars grow as an athlete and help him a lot for the future. Lars is someone who can gain confidence quickly and who’s capable of big performance as we’ve witnessed it in Cairns and Albstadt. If he’s in a good day and ready psychologically he’s capable of creating a big surprise.”
Lars Forster and Julien Absalon will be the two representatives of the BMC MTB Racing Team at the Cross-country Men’s race that takes place on the 22nd of August, last day of the competition.
