BMC Racing Team’s seven-rider roster at the inaugural Hammer Serries will be led by time trial specialists Stefan Küng and Manuel Quinziato.

Sports Director Jackson Stewart said a well-rounded team is needed in order to perform well over the three-day event, which is set to crown cycling’s best team.

“The three different racing formats present a unique challenge with the focus changing from sprinting, to climbing and then finally, the team time trial, across the three days. Unlike a normal stage race where you look to support one rider for the General Classification, you really need to have a team of fast sprinters, strong climbers and then of course time trial specialists, which is tough when you only have five riders at the start line every day. Stefan Küng and Manuel Quinziato are some of our best time trialists so they will be an asset when it comes to the final day” Stewart explained.

“Of course, with our history of success in team time trials, we’re particularly excited by the third day, Hammer Chase. We want to win any team time trial that we line up for, but we will need to have picked up a good amount of points on the first two days to put us in a good position heading into the finale.”

Stefan Küng, who recently won stage 2 of the Tour de Romandie, said the race format will provide a completely different experience for fans.

“I think fans will enjoy watching something new with the Hammer Series and being able to see three different racing formats. It will remind me a bit of my days on the track. Sometimes people don’t realize how much of a team sport cycling is, so the emphasis on teamwork and getting points as a team each day will be interesting. The team time trial is the perfect way to wrap things up,” Küng said.

Manuel Quinziato, who was part of BMC Racing Team’s UCI Team Time Trial World Championship victories in 2014 and 2015, will bring a wealth of experience.

“A team time trial is the ultimate test of how strong a team is and I’ve been part of the winning team on many occasions throughout my career, so I know what it takes. This is my final year of racing so I’ll take any chance I can get to do a team time trial and I’m looking forward to racing the Hammer Series,” Quinziato said.

BMC Racing Team’s complete roster will be announced in the week leading up to the Hammer Series.
