Indergand Takes the Win at the Swiss Bike Cup in his Local Playground of Andermatt

26. June 2017, Andermatt, Switzerland — Melanie Leveau — MTB Team

Reto Indergand managed to do what many athletes only dream of: to win on home soil in front of a crowd of friends and family cheering him on.

The fifth round of the Proffix Swiss Bike Cup in Andermatt was one of the season objectives for Reto Indergand who grew up a few kilometers from the ski resort. The winner of the 2016 Swiss series delivered with a convincing win, crossing the line with enough of a lead to celebrate his victory.

“I was pretty nervous in the morning” he explained on the podium, his two-year old son in his arms. “But I had decided before the race to show that I was there for the win. I rode right up in the front for the first few laps and broke away from the rest of the riders with Martin Fanger (SUI) and Anton Sintsov (RUS). When Sintsov attacked mid-race I couldn’t follow, so I had to let him go, but he had a small mechanical quickly after that so I took my chance - I passed him and rode the last two laps on my own even though Martin Fanger put me under pressure, he was always a few seconds behind. I know he has a strong finish but it eventually worked out for me.”

“I am obviously happy with the win and I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the feeling of racing in front of my family and friends!”

With this win, Indergand is now in the lead of the Proffix Swiss Bike Cup with two rounds to go.

Results:

  1. Reto Indergand (SUI) 1:20'48''
  2. Martin Fanger (SUI) +0'16''
  3. Anton Sintsov (RUS) +0'53''
