Great team performance in Solothurn10. May 2015, Solothurn, Switzerland — MTB Team
Julien Absalon, Lukas Flückiger and Martin Fanger finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively of the third round of the BMC Racing Cup in Solothurn. Team work and a brand new bike – the Teamelite 01 – were the recipe of such a successful day.
The BMC Racing Cup in Solothurn is always a special event. Part of the Bike Days festival, the largest in Switzerland, it offers to the riders a very particular course where team work is crucial. The troops of the BMC MTB Racing Team know how to play this game. After a very good start, Lukas Flückiger was in a front group with fellow countrymen Nino Schurter and Florian Vogel but had to let them go in the second lap: “I would have been able to keep up for another one or two laps but I would have blown up afterwards!”
Working together with Julien Absalon and Martin Fanger, the 2012 vice World Champion managed to keep the gap with the leaders around 30’’. At the end of the fourth lap, Florian Vogel suffered a flat tire and had to let Nino Schurter go for his sixth consecutive win in Solothurn. Behind, Julien Absalon crossed the line in second, Lukas Flückiger in third and Martin Fanger in fourth.
“It is always the same here. If you’re not in the leading group from the start it is impossible to come back” explained the World Champion who was anyhow satisfied with second place and a good power training.
Lukas Flückiger was also happy with his start and final result : “They are still a couple of things to fine tune but everything is according to plan”.
After a difficult start, Martin Fanger managed his way to the second group and worked with Julien and Lukas for a few laps. In the last minutes of the race he had to play tactics to get rid of team mates Manuel Fumic and Marco Aurelio Fontana. “They were attacking me one after the other but I trained on the track this winter and it helped me a lot! When it was my time to attack, none of them could follow!”
The BMC MTB Racing Team riders were racing on their new BMC Teamelite 01 that was officially presented on the eve of the event. With his Micro Travel Technology (MTT) the hard tail offers more compliance to the riders : “I’m convinced it climbs just as good as last year’s bike, with a little extra something for the down hills which we definitely need. I’m very happy to have this edge!” explains World Champion Julien Absalon.
The next “rendez-vous” on the BMC MTB Racing Team is the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in Nove Mesto na Morave, Czech Republic in two weeks. Things will really get going there!
