Giro d'Italia, Stage 19: Caruso Still Top 10

BMC Racing Team's Damiano Caruso fought to keep his place in the top 10 Friday at the Giro d'Italia on another challenging major mountain stage.

Caruso finished 11th but slipped from seventh to eighth overall as Ryder Hesjedal (Cannondale-Garmin) went on the attack. finish runner-up. The 2012 Giro d'Italia winner finished runner-up on the stage and overtook Caruso by nine seconds in the standings with two days of the race to go.

Fabio Aru (Astana Pro Team) soloed to win the 236-kilometer race. Alberto Contador (Tinkoff-Saxo) remained the race leader, 4:37 ahead of Aru and 5:15 in front of Aru's teammate, Mikel Landa. Caruso is 12:14 behind.
