Name: Sam Dobbs
Nickname: Dobby (The House Elf)
Where do you call home: Cambridge, New Zealand
Training base: Belgium
How long have you been riding with BMC Development Team: 2016 was my first year with the team.
On the bike
Proudest achievement so far: Winning national titles on road and track in New Zealand is definitely a highlight for me as well as winning the TTT at Tour de Berlin, Giro Valle d'Aosta with BMC Development Team and then defending the yellow Jersey with Killian Frankiny.
Favourite thing about riding in the peloton: The antics! Racing in Europe is like a chest on wheels
Favourite race: Tour of Flanders and Liège-Bastogne-Liège
Favourite place to train: Girona
Ultimate goal: To race in the World Tour and be the first New Zealand rider to win a Monument and a Tour de France stage.
Off the bike
Favourite film or TV show: I'm watching Prison Break at the moment and I'm hooked. Rush is a great movie, so is Gladiator.
Favourite musician or band: Kendrick Lamar, 50 Cent or Eminem... I can't choose
Favourite food: Pancakes from my Belgium family
Best way to recover: A Powerbar protein shake and a massage from the fantastic soigneurs at BMC Development Team.
If you didn’t cycle what sport would you do? Free Diving
I bet you didn't know that? Before I started cycling I think I must have tried almost every sport around including Soccer, Rugby, Basketball, BMX, Archery, Running, Swimming but nothing excited me like the first time I started cycling. The challenge it brought and still brings is a special sensation that I hope I will never loose.
