Our riders have clocked thousands of hours this season, whether on-race or training, so we thought it was time to put the spotlight on them to find out a little bit more about their lives both on and off their BMC Teammachine SLR01s.

Rider profile

Name: Leo Appelt

Age: 19

Where do you call home: Hannover

Training base: Hannover and the Lower Saxony region of Germany

How long have you been riding with BMC Development Team: I've been with the team since 2016

On the bike

Proudest achievement so far: Definitely becoming two-time World Junior Champion in 2015 in the ITT on the track and on the road.

Favorite thing about riding in the peloton: Suffering together with others. Working with and for the team and accomplishing victories together.

Favorite race: I really like the Spring Classics but I don't have one favorite race.

Favorite place to train: I like to train in my home area but most of the year I prefer warmer spots. For me the people I train with is more important than the location. I think that with good friends any place could be my favourite place to train.

Ultimate goal: To win a Monument.

Off the bike

Favorite film or TV show: I like to watch TV while surfing the web so I don't have only one favorite movie or TV show.

Favorite musician or band: I like a wide range of music: deep house, hip hop, charts. I'm note able to choose one absolute favorite genre or musician. I just love to listen to music in general.

Favorite Food: I am a fan of nearly all kind of food! Ìt's pretty similar to my taste in music. It mostly depends on my mood and the time. For example, right now I would like to eat pizza.

Best way to recover after a race: Eat, massage and sleep. In that order.

If you didn’t cycle what sport would you do? That's a good question. I've never really done any other sport, so I'm not sure.

I bet you didn't know that? Apart from road cycling, I am still riding on the track and I'm on the German National Track team.
