Tour Alsace Stage 4 came down to a antiquated bunch sprint today with Kilian Frankiny crossing the line safely in main bunch to secure third place overall on the General Classification after five days of racing in France.

After catching the breakaway inside the final sixty kilometers to the day’s 149.6 kilometer stage, the peloton began to set themselves up for a sprint finish which was eventually won by Timothy Dupont (Klein Constantia).

Finishing with the main bunch, Frankiny maintained his third place on the General Classification and took the final place on the podium, one minute and eight seconds behind overall winner Maximilian Schachmann (Klein Constantia)

Quotes from the finish line

Sports Director Klaas Lodewyck said: “We didn’t want to take too many risks today as with only two climbs at the start of the day we knew that the stage would ultimately come down to a bunch spring and that it would be important for us to protect Kilian’s position on the General Classification. The guys did a great job helping to set the pace at the front of the peloton and to ensure we had no time gaps on the line. It was great to see how well everyone has worked over the last five days especially to see that Kilian was able to maintain his high level from Italy and prove he really is one of the best when it comes to climbing.”

Kilian Frankiny said: “When the final local laps started the team worked perfectly to help support me and to keep me in the best position possible. I felt safe sitting on their wheels and I honestly cannot thank them enough for the work they put in to bring me across the line safely with the main bunch. I came to this race after a really strong result in Italy so to back that up with third on the GC here is amazing. I am still feeling really fresh and motivated so I am excited for what’s to come in my next races.”
