Forster Kicks 2017 off with Second Place at EKZ Tour Finals

3. January 2017, Meilen, Switzerland — Melanie Leveau — MTB Team

Only three seconds between defending National Champion and German winner Marcel Meisen.

Wearing his brand new Assos Cyclo-cross National Champion jersey, Lars Forster delivered a great performance yesterday in Meilen despite an average start. “I had to fight hard in the first two laps to get to the front” Forster explained. “The course here is really hard with a long steep climb and a very technical descent. I took the race into my hands as soon as I got to the front and rode a strong tempo that only Meisen could follow.” The two of them worked nicely together to maintain the gap on the chasing group and entered the last lap together. “Meisen was very strong in the climb, stronger than me actually. He placed a very strong attack there and quickly opened a gap. I couldn’t bridge it in the downhill unfortunately… but I’m in good shape and I’m happy with second place. ”

Forster’s second place bodes well for next week-end’s National Championships where he will stand at the start line as defending champion. Teammates Lukas Flückiger and Reto Indergand will also be on the startline with legitimate ambitions.

Results:

  1. Marcel Meisen (GER)
  2. Lars Forster (SUI) +0'03''
  3. Sascha Weber (GER) +0'31''
