Forster Disappointed with Silver at Swiss CX Nationals

8. January 2017, Dielsdorf, Switzerland — Melanie Leveau — MTB Team

It all started really well but a crash in the penultimate lap prevented Lars Forster to fight for gold with all his strengths.

Lars Forster’s post-race emotions contrasted with last year’s. After the surprise and happiness of 2016, Forster was disappointed and upset with himself. “I made too many mistakes… And that crash was one too much!” After the award ceremony, he took more time to explain. “The course was very technical; flat but with many slippery corners. It wasn’t really possible to give voice to power since the straights were very short and didn’t provide many passing opportunities. Positioning was key.” And at this game, Forster did really well.

Mid-race, the outgoing Swiss Champion found himself in the lead with Julien Taramarcaz and Nicolas Rohrbach who finished second and third last year. The 2017 would be made of the same men but in which order? “I was feeling good but I made a mistake in the second last lap. I lost five seconds and five seconds on this track are huge. I could only close the gap with 500m to the finish. I managed to pass Rohrbach in the last turn but unclipped and couldn’t really sprint for first place…”

Lukas Flückiger and Reto Indergand also took part to the National Championships and finished 5th and 13th. The three Swiss riders are flying to Gran Canaria today for a two-week training camp with their National Team.

Swiss Cycling will announce later this month their selection for the UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in Luxemburg.
