First win in the Rainbow Jersey for Julien Absalon

13. April 2015, Schaan, Switzerland — MTB Team

Julien Absalon and Martin Fanger celebrated a double victory for the BMC MTB Racing Team at the first round of the BMC Racing Cup in Schaan, Liechtenstein. The team displayed a fantastic collective performance; each of the riders having played a role in the 1-2 finish.

Ralph Näf was first in the attack. The 2012 XCE World Champion went with the gun and rode the first two of nine laps with a 15” advantage on the rest of the field obliging the other teams to produce their first effort. The peloton quickly dislocated. Lap after lap, the lead group kept shrinking and half way through the race World Champion Julien Absalon and his young team mate Martin Fanger were alone in the lead. The latest couldn’t sustain the pace and had to let his leader go with two laps to go.

Aboard his TeamElite TE01, Julien Absalon won his 13th round of the BMC Racing Cup but most importantly his first race in the Rainbow Jersey. After suffering allergy problems that cost him some important weeks of training, the French rider is relieved: “During the last two weeks I trained very intensively. Before that, I was diesel-powered only – due to my allergic problems. But hard training seems to have brought me back to rhythm“.

Another happy rider is Martin Fanger: “It was great to go alongside my team mate Julien for quite a while even though I finally had to let him go. But I was able to show that I am in really good shape“.

Not in their best form, Lukas Flückiger finished 4th and Reto Indergand 7th. Ralph Näf blew up after his fast start and finished in 14th place.

After a new intensive training block, Julien Absalon and the rest of the BMC MTB Racing Team will be in Tesserete in two weeks to defend their lead in the BMC Racing Cup.
