Enduro-tastic! FBM victorious in the Andes Pacifico15. February 2016 — Enduro Team
François Bailly-Maitre triumphs over Mark Scott and Jerome Clementz to take early season win in the Santa Cruz Andes Pacifico.
The Santa Cruz Andes Pacifico, a five day, international stage race taking place in Chile last week, was the scene of François Bailly-Maître first win of the 2016 season. For the final stage that took place yesterday, riders were transferred by bus from Valle de Apalta Santa Cruz to Matanzas, where they were put to the test with seven stages under the intense heat of the Chilean Pacific coastline. Francois Dubbed the ‘Dakar’ of mountain biking, the Santa Cruz Andes Pacifico takes riders from the Chilean Andes to the Pacific coast through some of the most challenging terrain and conditions to match. Bailly-Maitre credits his success to a solid winter of training. Because there has been less snow than usual where he lives in the French Alps, he has been able to ride more than usual for this time of the year. It is a first for Francois, to be so competitive early in the season – setting him up nicely for a strong result at the first EWS taking place again in Chile, in one month’s time.
According to Bailly-Maître “It was a long week, and a long race that was for sure challenging. I approached it as a training race and before the event I rode quite a bit with the BMC distributor in Chile, Sport Expert. We even did a cross country race the day before the first stage. Maybe we rode a bit too much before the race - but it was fun! I’m really tired now though and will go home to recover and prepare for my return to Chile for the first round of the EWS”
The final results are here.
