October, the final month of racing for the 2016 season, opened with a brutal edition of Il Lombardia, where numerous climbs and testing conditions saw a large number of riders abandon the race.

Damiano Caruso spent the first half of the day in the breakaway, including a solo stint at the front of the race, before a motivated Alessandro De Marchi battled it out to finish in ninth place, his best result at a Monument.

The focus then turned to the UCI World Championships in Doha, Qatar where BMC Racing Team, as two-time team time trial world champions in 2014 and 2015, where hoping to secure a third title. It was a solid effort from the six riders but in the end Etixx-QuickStep proved too strong, and BMC Racing Team had to settle for second place. Rohan Dennis went on to take sixth place in the individual time trial and Greg Van Avermaet rounded out the top ten in the road race.

The long season was scheduled to wrap up with the Abu Dhabi Tour and Japan Cup, where BMC Racing Team were in the top ten on every stage. Ben Hermans had his sights set on the GC at Abu Dhabi Tour and eventually finished in seventh place to round out a solid season for the Belgian.

The season didn't end without some fun, with Jempy Drucker showing his tricks on Abu Dhabi stage 3, and Greg Van Avermaet having some fun in the breakaway that same day.

That’s it for the 2016 season! BMC Racing Team finished the year with 30 victories, 26 second place results, and 26 third place results. What’s next? Bring on 2017!
