BMC MTB Racing Team: even higher expectations for 2015

9. March 2015 — MTB Team

The BMC MTB Racing Team formally announced its roster and revealed its goals for the 2015 season.

Winner of the Team Ranking of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in 2013 and 2014, the BMC MTB Racing Team also won no less than 15 races in 2014 including the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships, the European Championships, the overall classification of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup as well as three rounds of the series. A handful of national titles (Cross-country Olympic with Julien Absalon, Cyclo-cross with Lukas Flückiger and Cross-country Eliminator with Martin Fanger) were also added to the team’s palmares during the past season.

Five riders form the 2015 BMC Mountain Bike Racing team: reigning World Champion Julien Absalon, Lukas Flückiger, former Marathon and XCE World Champion Ralph Näf as well as the two young Swiss guns Martin Fanger and Reto Indergand.

High goals and expectations

After such a successful 2014 season, expectations are high for 2015. BMC MTB Racing Team Sport Director Alex Moos has the difficult task of delivering similar or even better results. “It will definitely be tough to do better than last year but we can always improve. Our main goal this year is to help Julien retain his European and World Champion titles and support the other four riders so they can reach their objectives.” Although Julien Absalon’s winter preparation was interrupted by a broken collarbone, the five-time World Champion is very reassuring. “I am back on track now. I didn’t lose too much time and I’ll be ready for the first big goals of the season: the World Cups in Nove Mesto na Morave and Albstadt”. The World Championships in Vallnord, Andorra are his main focus as he’d like to add another record to his palmares by winning a sixth title there.

The UCI Mountain Bike World Cup and World Championships are also Lukas Flückiger’s main goals. The 2012 World Championships silver medalist wants 2015 to be the season of his first World Cup win and would love to make that happen on homesoil, in Lenzerheide, at the beginning of July.

The World Cup in Lenzerheide is also an event where Ralph Näf is eager to do well. The Swiss veteran helped with the design of the course there and a podium result would satisfy his intact thirst for top results.

Reto Indergand and Martin Fanger will both continue learning from their teammates, and aim to place regularly in the top 15 at World Cup events and on the podium of the BMC Racing Cups.

Fourstroke FS01: weapon of choice

After Julien's impressive win last year at the Worlds on the fourstroke FS01, no team rider needs to be convinced about the bike’s efficiency. In fact, everyone is eager to race it as much as possible. Looking at the calendar, they actually might be doing an almost complete World Cup season onboard the fourstroke FS01.

Of course, the five riders will also have the possibility to race onboard the Teamelite TE01.

First rendez-vous

The first time the BMC MTB Racing Team will be competes together will be at the BMC Racing Cup in Schaan on the 12th of April. All five riders will also compete at two other BMC Racing Cup events (Tesserete and Solothurn Bike Days) before the opening round of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup on the technical course of Nove Mesto na Morave, Czech Republic.

2015 BMC MTB Racing Team Rider Roster: Julien Absalon (FRA), Lukas Flückiger (SUI), Ralph Näf (SUI), Martin Fanger (SUI) and Reto Indergand (SUI).

Sport Director: Alex Moos (SUI)

Team Manager: David Chassot (SUI)
