BMC MTB Racing Team 2017 Roster: Titouan Carod joins the squad

20. October 2016, Grenchen, Switzerland — Melanie Leveau — MTB Team

The BMC MTB Racing Team announced its roster for the 2017 season today.

True to its ethos, the BMC MTB Racing Team will remain very stable next year. As announced a couple of weeks ago at Roc d’Azur, Julien Absalon will be racing cross-country at the highest level for another season. Three Swiss riders, Lukas Flückiger, Lars Forster and Reto Indergand, will also continue the adventure with the BMC MTB Racing Team.

The only change to the team is the arrival of French rider Titouan Carod, winner of the 2015 and 2016 U23 World Cup overall classification. The young talent is excited about this new development to his career: “I’m very excited to join the BMC MTB Racing Team. I will enter my first season as an Elite rider and therefore move into the unknown. I believe the experience of the team and its riders will help me overcome this challenge.”

French connection with Julien Absalon and Titouan Carod

Racing alongside Julien Absalon was also a great motivation for Carod: “He’s been my idol since I’ve been riding bikes. I really want to learn from him and maybe I can also teach him a few things. We’ve checked out a few World Cup courses together this year and I know he likes to see my line in the downhills.” The French duo, mixing the old and the new generations, will certainly be a nice one to watch.

Carod has signed a two-year contract which will leave him enough time to adapt to the Elite category and develop throughout the first season.

For Alex Moos, Team Manager of the BMC MTB Racing Team, the arrival of Titouan Carod feels very natural: “We have been thinking about adding a French rider to the team for some time now and we thought it would be great for everyone to have Titouan joining before Julien’s retirement. I’ve been keeping a close eye on his results throughout the entire season and I have only been told good things about him. I also know that Julien holds him in high regard, so we started talking about a possible future together. It actually happened very late but I immediately felt like there was a connection.”

BMC MTB Racing Team to remain at the top

When asked about the objectives of the team, Moos explains: “We want to perform as well as we did in the past. Julien will remain our top rider; Titouan and Lars should slowly but steadily step up on the podiums. Reto is a great proof of the long-term work we’ve been putting in together and will help with the stability and regularity of the team, while Lukas will play the role of an ambitious captain. He wants to show what he’s really capable of getting back into the top 10 ranking “

A revised race calendar

The team will focus on the events of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup presented by Shimano and the Swiss Bike Cup with some probable visits at other national series.
