BMC Development Team x Shimano: Suzuka Race21. August 2016, Suzuka (JPN) — Development Team
Three BMC Development Team riders travelled to Japan with Shimano this week to take part in the two-day Suzuka Race and visit the Shimano factory.
We caught up with Bas Tietema, Sam Dobbs and Mario Spengler below to find out how their trip has gone so far:
“We started the two day race with fifth place in the Team Time Trial and we were the first European team. Then in the Road Race on the racing track it was hard for anyone to escape successfully with the wide roads so in end it was a bunch sprint. Mario, Sam and I were in a good position and I was able to finish third.”
“It’s a totally different culture here and it’s great see how much they appreciate cycling. It is really popular and there was a lot of people out watching us. It was pretty cool.”
“I'm really enjoying our trip to Japan. Everyone is really friendly out here and the Shimano crew have provided us with great support and we have also had a good time with the riders from other European teams.”
“I'm now looking forward to visiting the Shimano factory tomorrow because I'm still doing an apprenticeship as a mechanic and so I'm really interested in the technical aspects of the sport.”
“So far, the trip to Japan and the Shimano Suzuka Race has been an amazing experience. It’s been great to see this wonderful country and we’ve been looked after so well by Shimano. They are such a great sponsor to have.”
“We’ve done well in the two races as well with fifth in the TTT and Bas third in the Road Race sprint plus me and Mario up there in seventh and twelfth. Racing around the F1 circuit was really fun. I’m now looking forward to going to the Shimano factory which will be cool and I will remember it for a long time”.
