It was another day on the podium in Switzerland for BMC Development Team as Patrick Müller, Kilian Frankiny and Fabian Lienhard took the top three spots in the Elite National category at the Swiss National Road Race Championships.

Racing alongside their BMC Racing Team compatriots, BMC Development Team’s Swiss riders were competitive over whole day of racing. Patrick Müller rode as part of the day’s breakaway while the rest of the squad made their mark, working hard in the peloton behind them.

Quotes of the day

Patrick Müller said: “The main objective for us today was to work for the pros. I was part of the early breakaway and we were in front until the final two laps to go. After that I still felt okay and had power in my legs so I could do some work for the pros until the last lap. I pulled at the front right up until the last climb and then I finished the race behind the first group together with Fabian Cancellera.”

“We are really happy to finish top three in the Elite National category. It was a really exciting day. You’re always really nervous and motivated when you line up to race with the pros and it feels amazing when you can stay at their wheel and really be part of the race. It is one of the best emotions you can have a young rider. Today has be a real confidence boost for me. Races like this give you an opportunity to see what level you are at and what you still need to work on to be up at the front of the race until the very end.”

Kilian Frankiny said: “Working with the World Tour riders today was great! We worked really hard today. I had good legs and it is a special feeling to ride with them. I was able to to stay with them for most of the day and provide support and that was really special and has definitely given me a lot of motivation for the future.”

Fabian Lienhard said: “I felt good today over the first two laps and was working hard. I then struggled a bit in the middle of the race but was able to come back at the end and help close the gap to the guys out in front. At the end for us, BMC Development Team, it was perfect. It was a really hard race and we are happy to have three guys on the podium in the Elite National category.”

“It was a great experience today. We didn’t go into the race to win Elite Nationals, we went in to work in support of the BMC Racing Team riders and I think we all did a good job so to be on the podium in that category is a bonus.”
