The race for pink begins this week with BMC Development Team heading to Italy for the first of seven stages at the Giro d’Italia U23 on Friday, June 9.

Sports Director Klaas Lodewyck said that he is confident in the strength of the BMC Development Team line-up.

“We have another really strong squad for the Giro d’Italia U23. We have a good mix of fast sprinters like Bram Welten and Jasper Philipsen and puncheurs who can really battle for stage wins. Then, we will have Pavel Sivakov as our leader for the General Classification. He really showed what he is capable of at Ronde de l’Isard and I trust that with this team we can do something special here.”

Pavel Sivakov is heading to Italy with confidence after his overall win at Ronde de l’Isard.

“The Giro d’Italia U23 is one of my big goals for this season, so I am really motivated ahead of it. My win at Ronde de l'Isard gave me some confidence about my shape and my level of the moment. I have worked hard since the end of that race so, I hope to be able to fight for pink over the course of the week.”

“We are going to Italy with a very strong team for the General Classification and also stage wins, so I'm really looking forward to getting started at ‘La Corsa Rosa.' It's going to be a tough race with a very high level, but we are ready for it,” Sivakov added.
