BMC Development Team Looking for Repeat Success at Giro Ciclistico Valle d’Aosta6. July 2017, Santa Rosa, California (USA) — Development Team
After claiming overall victory in 2016, BMC Development Team will return to Giro Ciclistico Valle d'Aosta next week with a strong and motivated team looking for repeat success.
Sports Director Jens Blatter is confident in the strength of BMC Development Team’s five-rider line-up.
“After taking two stage wins and the overall victory with Kilian Frankiny last year, we are looking forward to returning to Giro Ciclistico Valle d’Aosta in 2017. Once again we have a strong team for the race, and we will start with Pavel Sivakov and Steff Cras as our main leaders for the General Classification."
"Pavel has already shown us what he is capable of with wins at Ronde de l'Isard and most recently, at the ‘Baby Giro.' Steff will be motivated to bounce back after his crash at Tour de Pays de Savoie and is looking stronger than ever after taking the time to recover before training at altitude. However, I am confident in the abilities of all five riders, and I think everyone can make a difference and go for stage wins. We will look to ride offensively as we have been doing all year and will focus on our own race. After looking at this year’s line-up I think that there are around ten riders who could potentially win this race and personally, I believe we have two of them on our roster,” Blatter explained.
Pavel Sivakov is looking forward to rejoining the peloton after his overall win at the Giro d’Italia U23.
“I’m feeling in pretty good shape after Giro d’Italia U23. I took some time off to rest and to allow myself to recover fully and now I feel ready to race again. I’m not 100% sure what to expect from Giro Ciclistico Valle d’Aosta, but I've have raced really well at my last two stage races so, I hope to continue like this over the five days. As always, the parcours is very hard, so it will be a really good but tough race. We are going there with a strong team, so I'm confident we can do something special and, after all the work the guys have done for me, I will be very happy to help them to get a big result,” Sivakov said.
Steff Cras is motivated about heading back to the start line after disappointment at the Tour de Savoie Mont Blanc.
“I have recovered well after my crash. I took five days off the bike, and then I headed to Livigno to train at altitude and prepare for Giro Ciclistico Valle d’Aosta. My shape is good, and my climbing legs and rhythm came back quickly which was great so, I am definitely ready to race again. Hopefully, I have done enough to perform well as I think the parcours will suit me especially as it starts with an uphill time trial. I was disappointed after crashing out of Tour de Savoie Mont Blanc, so I am more motivated than ever to do well here. Every day is hard but I know some of the stages from previous years, and I am looking forward to getting started,” Cras added.
