Another Top-10 for FBM at EWS in France

19. September 2016, Valberg, France — Melanie Leveau — Enduro Team

François Bailly-Maître had a solid week-end finishing 8th and holding on to his 6th place in the overall classification of the Enduro World Series.

Described as one of the best ever events by many riders, the seventh round of the Enduro World Series was also one of the toughest. The weather forecast being pretty bad, organisers decided to cancel two stages still leaving the riders with seven stages of a whopping 3’300m of descent and a gruelling 4’000m of climbing!

Bailly-Maître didn’t start as well as he had expected: “I don’t really understand why I wasn’t quicker. I felt fast and smooth in this first stage and was pretty happy with my run when I got to bottom. But soon I realized that I only scored 18th fastest time, 19’’ behind the leader!”. After that, the French rider had a very consistent race finishing 4th and 7th in the two remaining stages on Saturday, and 11th, 9th, 3rd and 5th on Sunday.

He eventually took 8th place, 34’’ behind downhill legend Sam Hill who won his first EWS in front of other legend Nicolas Vouilloz. “These two dominated the race but the gaps were very close between third and fifth place. I was only 4’’ off of fifth place which tells me that without this bad first stage my final ranking could have been much better. But as we say in France: “With if’s you could put Paris in a bottle…”

All eyes are now on Finale Ligure, Italy where the final round of the series will take place in two weeks. FBM will do his best to crack the top-5 of the overall classification. He’s currently sitting in 6th place, 10 points behind fellow countryman Nico Lau. “But Martin Maes and Greg Callaghan are pushing hard so it will be a great battle for sure” adds Bailly-Maître.
